Born in São Paulo, Marcus Held is a violinist and researcher with a busy agenda as recital performer, invited concertmaster and lecturer in many occasions throughout Brazil. Holds a BMus in violin performance by FAAM, as well as a MPhil in Musicology by the University of São Paulo, where now is a PhD candidate.
Dedicated to the study of performing practices from 16th to 19th century repertoire, Held improved his studies at the São Paulo State School of Music (EMESP) and the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC, Barcelona) with renowned violinists such as Luis Otavio Santos, Emilio Moreno and Manfredo Kraemer. Also had Masterclasses with Sigswald Kuijken, Walter Reiter, Julia Kuhn, Rodolfo Richter, Jennifer Morsches, Mira Glodeanu, Chouchane Siranossian and Stephanie-Marie Degand.
Since 2010, he has participated in more than 30 festivals, workshops and academies in Brazil and abroad both as student, performer and invited teacher, such as Curitiba Early Music Workshop, The Parley of Instruments International Summer School (University of Cambridge, England) and La Petite Bande Summer Academy (Italy), having the opportunity to play side by side with the main names of international historical performance.
Since 2015, he has been regularly invited to deliver lectures on Performance Practice, History and Philosophy of Music at renowned teaching and research institutions in Brazil, such as the Baccarelli Institute of São Paulo, Federal University of Goiás (UFG), State University of São Paulo (UNESP) and the University of São Paulo (USP). He was invited as violin and viola teacher to events such as the III Encontro Campestre de Violas, the I International Festival of Music at Home (FIMUCA) and the V Goiás Ancient Music Series (SMAG).
Marcus Held is the concertmaster of EOS Música Antiga USP and Professor at the Conservatory of Tatuí, where he is also Pedagogic Coordinator of the Classical Music Departament.
Marcus Held teaches baroque violin, chamber music and music history at the Conservatory of Tatuí and as concertmaster to EOS Música Antiga USP.
